1 Copywriting Tip

Tip: Focus on a niche trend

As you read this, hundreds of thousands of people are flocking over to Amazon because the Prime Day sale is live.

Honestly, it's been like that for so long that it's a niche trend now. Imagine having such a big brand that you create trends. WILD.

Now, if you were to follow along the same lines, the easiest way is to run a sale.

Fair.

I don't blame you.

Most businesses should do that.

But if you're not a discount business and want to maintain a different positioning, you can go anti-sale too.

I did a fun little experiment where I took on Amazon's Prime Day by creating witty one liners posed as mockery.

Don't get me wrong. I love me a good sale. But it's 10X more fun to position against than to position for.

Here's how I approached it:

1. Thought about what usually happens in the sale season when you haven't planned to buy something before

2. What happens after you buy something you don't need

3. Bridge that gap

And the best part is you can repeat it across niches. The Prime Day sale is just one of them.

For you it could be anything ranging from a superbowl weekend to a national holiday.

All you gotta remember is:

→One (or two) lines are enough

→Make sure to get the context of the niche right

→Make it clear and relatable or don't make it at all

Now onto the two ads I made for Prime Day...

2 Examples

1. Prime Day (Spec Ad)

It’s a simple line that I literally wrote right after ordering something I knew wasn’t essential but the sale called for it, so why not!?

Tip: Live the truth and tell the story of that truth in a compelling way.

2. Prime Day (Spec Ad)

This is more of a sarcastic take on consumerism.

Those who get it, stop.

Those who don’t, shop.

3 Tactics for You

1. Pick the Right Trends

Niche trends matter. But the cult behind them matters more.

The stronger it is, the more chances of it getting noticed.

No wonder I picked Amazon's biggest shopping festival.

2. Use Literary Devices

Irony, juxtaposition, metaphors, storytelling or anything that tells the truth in a compelling way makes the best copy.

Remember, nobody reads your copy if it's not interesting to read.

3. Test Your Ideas

These niche trend insights can lead to big swings but start with the smaller ones first.

Test your ideas via a social media post or a limited OOH ad.

Well, that’s all I have for you today 🤝
