1 Copywriting Tip
Tip: Observe and leverage moments
It was a lazy night.
I came back from a trip on Monday.
I took Tuesday to unwind. But I knew that I have to create a post for LinkedIn for Wednesday because it had been a while.
And travelling only made my consistency go downhill.
Surprisingly, while researching for my post...
I came across a couple tweets that said ChatGPT is down.
Plus, I saw a few articles confirming it.
That's when I thought, I found it.
I found my big idea for tomorrow's post.
Since ChatGPT was down, it disrupted everyone's workflow. People were panicking and work was taking 2x-10x longer.
That's why I decided to create 10 one liner style ads from brands that had nothing to do with AI.
And surprisingly, mine only took an hour or so because I was in the flow and really positive about the idea.
In a world where AI is the villain that will swallow humanity...
I wanted to bring back the refreshing charm of simple businesses.
It's the classic underdog story but with a mockery twist.
Before I show you the examples, I wanted to talk about the importance of being observant.
As a copywriter, you're a thinker first. And that's why you have to know what's happening around you.
Especially, if not exclusively, in your field.
The ChatGPT crash was right up my alley and that's why my idea aligned perfectly.
It's not just me who thinks so. LinkedIn does too. The post went viral because it resonated with many.
Now onto my two examples...
2 Examples
1. Airtel
Mocking the overdependence on a robot.
So many people lost valuable chat time for those 5 hours when GPT wasn’t responding.
I bet the feeling of loneliness was back.
2. Make My Trip
GPT went down on a Monday afternoon so I guess it really wanted a break.
Plus, some of y’all ask such stupid questions that a breather becomes necessary.
3 Tactics for You
1. Personification
The thing that makes my one liners interesting is treating GPT like a person. It feels like your executive assistant went on a break and now you're left to figure out things without them.
Being human adds emotional resonance.
Even if you're talking about a non-living item, although I'd argue any AI feels pretty alive to me.
2. Study Moment Marketing
ChatGPT going down was a moment I preyed on.
If you want to think on the same lines...
Observe social media content from brands related to specific moments.
This will open up your mind about context, ideas and framing.
3. Create Variations
The exciting thing about moment marketing is that different brands can have different perspectives.
And hence, different ways to present.
I believe the only reason why my post went viral is because I did it for 10 brands instead of one.
People read everything, chose their favourites and then engaged.
Create more to learn more.
Well, that’s all I have for you today 🤝
