1 Copywriting Tip
Tip: Play with the Gifting Angle
One angle that never gets old is the gifting angle. But right now it is of prime importance.
Why? Because we're officially entering the best time of the year aka the holiday season. There will be huge discounts on everything so people are stocking up on gifts for later.
Now...I won't lie. The gifting angle isn't something revolutionary or out of the box.
But then again, I don't think it needs to be. What actually needs to be unique is the way you present it.
Not every brand can say that their product or service is a gift...
But DTC brands in the consumables space are the bread & butter for gifting.
The number one mistake I see average brands make with their gifting angle is: Being too vanilla.
Because they don't understand that the gifting angle is less about copy and more about the reaction and the surprise element.
Videos are the best format for this but it doesn't mean that you cannot do it for statics.
But here's where I think it gets interesting: It's not about what you gift but how you plan and present your gift.
That's where copy thinking comes in.
→ How relatable & authentic it feels
→ How you create a situation
→ How you tell a story
This is what takes your gifting angle to the next level.
Let me show you two great examples...
2 Examples
1. Moerie Beauty
30-day challenge angle plays into an organic trend.
You can pair this with a gifting angle by telling a story of how your friend surprised you into taking a 30-day challenge with her and after a month, you both are healthier and happier.
It’s not about the gift. It’s about the reaction and what the gift helps you achieve.
Check out the full ad here.
2. True Classic
Hyping up your partner after gifting something personal and intimate is a great way to say what you gifted is amazing without saying your gift is the best.
This is the kind of reaction I’m talking about.
3 Tactics for You
1. Borrow from Organic Trends
Don't make ads that scream offers. Learn from organic trends on how to tell a good story.
Be it something like a 30-day challenge or what I got my man...
2. Record a Reaction
Instead of making an ad, record a genuine and authentic unboxing reaction of a loved one.
Show them unwrapping, being surprised and enjoying their gift. There's nothing. better than telling a story that feels like "I'd love to be a part of an experience like this."
3. Create a Gift Guide
If you're a store that sells multiple products, categorize gifts for your customers and become their gift-shopping bestie in the form of an ad.
An ad won't feel like an ad if it's helping your customers decide what to give. Rather, it primes them to buy from your store.
Well, that’s all I have for you today 🤝
